I think this is my favorite place to scuba dive EVER! The water is warm, dive masters are anxious to show us around, and there is animal life here around every corner not shy about people at all. Many animals came right up to us just as curious as we were. More about that to come...
First land excursions. Our first day in French Polynesia we rented an electric car and zoomed around one of the islands. 'Car' is a huge stretch of the word, actually it was more of a scooter with a roof. Getting the 2 of us in was a great laugh, getting out was even funnier! The 'car' wasn't fast- I'm sure I could run faster but it was fun. The views from the top of the mountains was awesome ocean water completely surrounding us. Our biggest complaint has been restaurants. Every chance possible we eat off the boat- local food by local people. It is one of the pleasure of this trip. Sadly most places are not open on Sundays, but the government still allows cruise ships to dock. This was true our first day in French Polynesia-nothing was open. So we saw the sights then headed back to the boat for an early dinner. Ok back to the animals. (One of my favorite topics) We saw hundreds of sharks, really hundreds! Each dive had huge pods (is that right 'pods'?) of sharks: white tips, black tips, lemon, gray reef, nurse, someone said they saw a lemon shark but I don't really think that was right. (Lemon sharks can be mean and they like to stay hidden) Turtles, eels, so many fish, and the best animal was dolphins!!!!!! 3 pods swam past during different dives-one dolphin let us pet him. REALLY WE PET A DOLPHIN! Link to the proof is below (if I did it right) Sorry for the shaking-I don't have the ability to edit anything on board I have to wait till I get home. But, the best way to know this place is great for diving was hearing Matt say he loved diving here.
