Before we left for this trip many people asked how we were going to arrange our lives for traveling for 6 months to 84 different countries. It wasn’t easy, I spent many days and nights planning and arranging things.
Some of the things learnt so far. 1: I only took one suitcase full of clothes, and even that has been to much. 2: Scuba gear takes up A LOT of room 3: Not every one uses the same standards for food safety. Choose wisely 4: Be sure you have money before you order lunch! Trust me on this one! 5: Couches on boats are not comfortable 6: 6 months is too long Struggles: There really haven’t been many. Oceania is sure to give you your monies worth-they handle your food, cleaning, laundry, and all land excursions. The only repeat struggle I have is finding stuff to do on sea days. Normally at home on ‘down days’ I’m doing my laundry or washing the car, or giving the dogs a bath, or getting ready for the next set of guests. I don’t have any of that to do here, so I find myself a little bored on sea days. I did sign up to finish my pilots certificate, so now I have lots of book work to keep me busy. Getting sick on a cruise: Every cruise ship has some form of a medical office. This ship can preform surgery if needed! The medical area is huge and employees 3 nurses and 1 doctor. Unfortunately Matt and I caught a cold and ended up there one morning. Thankfully no one else was there so we did not have to wait, or spread our cooties! An hour later we had blood drawn (and results) an IV finished, and lots of meds. 2 days of quarantine later we were released and feeling much better. No extra charge-it was paid through our cruise payments. Doctors: This poor doctor spends all day reminding people to wash their hands. Really! His main client is the poor person who caught the cruise ship dreaded noro virus. So I will take this minute to remind people nothing beats hot water and soap!
